I’ve tried this once and ended up with a blank post for some reason. Here are the new My Weekly Pocket Novel guidelines on a pdf file. If you have any problems downloading the file, feel free to contact me via my website and I’ll gladly email it to you.

  1. Dare I ask how much My Weeklky pay for their pcket novels? The investment of time is a big one!

    • It’s written on the right hand side of the pdf file, Frances, but they pay £300. But after it’s been published by MW, you can then sell it on to Ulverscroft/Linford Romance Library for around £400 (I’m not sure if it’s more for the longer length novellas actually as I haven’t sent them the longer length yet) and you’ll also earn Public Lending Rights. So what might not seem like much for the first publication rights soon adds up. :-)

I can only speak for Derbyshire, but my first pocket novel, The Secret of Helena’s Bay, has been on loan almost continuously from Derbyshire Libraries since it was released in January, and that’s about 6p for each time someone takes it out.

  2. Thanks for these, Sally – I’ll mention your blog link on the Romantic Novelists’ Forum, if I may.

    • Of course, Rosemary! I still have to join that. Will have to look into it.

  3. Thanks for sharing, Sally. Hope your health is getting better.

Hi Sally, I’m so excited because I have one coming out, though I don’t know when. That’s due, in part, to the encouraging information you put on this blog. Thanks for the PDF link because it’s a useful reminder of what’s needed for when I really get down to writing the next hopeful.

  5. Thanks very much for this, Sally. Have done my first draft of 50,000 words – now I just have to make it coherent!
